Luscious Forest with Amazing Viewing Platforms to Falls
We made sure to stop at Tasmania’s iconic Liffey Falls on our way from Launceston heading to Devonport - worth a stop and a nice break from traveling. However, the road you need to travel on ‘Riversdale Road’ to Liffey Falls is ‘undesirable’.
The road is gravel, winding and very narrow – what was more frightening, it is a two-way car access. Not a comfortable driving experience, especially when the vehicles coming the opposite direction are HUGE.
Access to this reserve and parking is free and after that horrifying experience, I am pleased to let you know that they also have toilets available in clean condition.
Safe ‘easy’ walking tracks are provided to Liffey Falls, with a given estimated time of how long the walk will take to Liffey Falls. There are many viewing platforms to view Liffey Falls at different angles and of course photo opportunities and benches at random places to take a break. Unfortunately, Liffey Falls was not at its best, due to lack of rain (we were there 2 January 2020 - summer).
But the falls was still happening and pretty, not at its best performance we all know and heard about. The trees and oversized fern trees however, were luscious green and amazing in presence and the foxglove flowers were in season and bloomed vibrantly.
You could easily spend two hours there if you take the time to read the information and take in what nature has to offer and the serenity. It is advisable to wear comfortable, enclosed shoes; a bottle of water and a jacket as it can be quite fresh there, yes… even in summer.
Don’t forget to make another toilet stop before you courageously head out of the reserve.
