Robertson Inn, Southern Highland “Just Like Home” (89 Hoddle Street, Robertson NSW Australia)

We decided to have a day out in Robertson, nothing planned, just a day out. It was an extremely cold and windy day on Sunday 27th August 2017. After we had our adventure and visited the local shops – plenty to see and do in Robertson, our tummies were beginning to rumble.

What attracted our attention was ‘Robertson Inn Southern Highland’ pub. We did arrive at 11.30am for an early lunch but we were told that they open at midday for lunch, so we took the opportunity to look around town and talk with the locals – ever so friendly there, we even had the pleasure to meet the local cat “Harry”.

When we walked in at midday, they recognised us and were greeted straight away. The staff are very friendly and was told that we can select whichever table to be seated, except for tables that already had the “reserved” sign on them. Don’t worry, there is no need to book at lunch time, they cater for 150 guests, however… I’m not too sure if they are extremely busy during the evenings, it’s probably best to book a table, just-in-case. I must mention though, when we walked inside, they have a fireplace going and it warmed our cockles instantly, we felt so warm, cozy – it had a “home” feel to the place.

Their tables are spacious to cater for food, arm room plus room for your accessories and such. Their menus and a bottle of water with glasses are already on the table when we seated ourselves. Loved their menus, it is better than your typical “pub menu” with all your pub favourites plus more!

When you are ready to order, you go to the counter to order your meal and pay at the same time. Both my girls had the traditional pub favourites, Chicken Parmigiana with fries and gravy plus salad (there were other sauces you could select to go with your fries plus you could choose potato roesti, sauerkraut and steamed veggies instead of your fries and salad).

Their meal was a generous serve, their salads were mixed green leaves with cashews, Spanish onion, cucumber with their delicious dressing plus coleslaw and the girls were quite delighted when their chicken parmigiana was topped with bacon rather than your typical piece of ham. The smiles on their faces were priceless and they cleaned every speck of food off their plates! As for myself and my wife, we decided to go with what was on the specials board, we chose Roast Pork topped with gravy and veggies that consisted of peas and corn, roast potatoes (both your ordinary and sweet potatoes) and to our delight, cauliflower gratin and apple sauce.

The roast pork was pulled, drizzled with gravy and was so tender, succulent that melted in my mouth, there was a piece of crackling cooked to perfection, I’m sure other guests heard me eating the crackling, nice and crispy, I wished I could have had more! And the combination of the veggies made that meal a complete meal. The price of the meal is affordable, we didn’t pay over $20 for each meal. Needless to say, we all enjoyed our meals and our tummies were happy. The only bad thing was… we had to brave the cold weather again. We will definitely dine there again! As for dessert, we went to Robertson's Pie Shop of course!
