Hunter Distillery

If going on a group tour, is not your thing, then I have a place for you! On our way home from the beautiful Hunter Valley region – known as ‘wine country’, we decided to stop by ‘Hunter Distillery’. 

Open 7 days, from 10am until 5pm with plenty of parking. When we hopped out of our car, we could smell that sweet, smell aroma of gin – nice. We walked in and was greeted by friendly staff and asked if we could have tastings of their exceptional range of Schnapps, Liqueurs and Gin. 

The lady there gave us a full range of their products list and we were left with the hard decision to freely choose which ones we wanted to taste. Tasting fees are $5 per person, however the fee is waived upon purchase at the time of tasting. 

Our tasting was of a unique experience, we did our tasting from a test-tube. The lady who served us was very knowledgeable and explained to us that this particular distillery is the only certified organic distillery in the Hunter Valley and therefore because it’s ‘organic’ it’s good for you, along with a cheeky smile. 

We had a choice of two different types of gins – ‘Jail House’ and ‘Copperwave’, they both tasted great. We skipped the Vodkas and straight to their Schnapps and Liqueurs. We had quite a few to taste and all too delicious. We tasted the Blueberry Schnapps first, followed by Mango, Passionfruit, Strawberry and Turkish Delight Liqueurs and left the best for last. 

I had an idea that Butterscotch Schnapps would be my favourite and it was by far! The lady gave me ideas of what I can also do with these liqueurs and Schnapps that made my decision even more harder. For example, use the Passionfruit Liqueur to give your pavlova cake that much needed boost in flavour. Or simply add Butterscotch Schnapps as a dressing to your pancakes with ice-cream. 

She really made my imagination go wild and my mouth watery - I just couldn’t wait to try some of her suggestions. I ended up buying their award winning Copperwave Gin, Blueberry and of course Butterscotch Schnapps and Passionfruit Liqueur to take home – there is no way I could give these top shelf products away as gifts.
